Lost Architecture
Penny Lane, Christchurch
Graphite pencil on 100% cotton paper
The story
Before the 2011 earthquake altered the layout of Christchurch, Penny Lane Records sat in a worn, red-brick terrrace shopfront on Colombo Street. It was a local fixture — dusty timber floors, crates of second-hand vinyl, and hand-painted window signs. The original building was lost in the quake, but this piece reconstructs the street-level facade as it stood: a textured snapshot of a space that meant a lot to a lot of people.
The series: Lost architecture
Reconstructing spaces lost to time, earthquakes, and urban change. Each piece is a tactile keepsake, celebrating the character, scale, and details of buildings that used to define a streetscape.
