Lost Architecture
15 Lawson Street, Christchurch
Graphite pencil on 100% cotton paper
The story
Before the 2011 earthquake, 15 Lawson Street sat quietly in Sydenham’s industrial pocket - an unassuming mix of corrugated iron, weathered timber, and old brickwork. It wasn't a landmark, just a solid, unassuming 1980's, working-class building that gave the street its everyday character. This drawing reconstructs the facade as it was, holding onto a small piece of Christchurch’s built history that’s no longer there.
The series: Lost architecture
Reconstructing spaces lost to time, earthquakes, and urban change. Each piece is a tactile keepsake, celebrating the character, scale, and details of buildings that used to define a streetscape.
The drawing
